I would like to thank the Teesside Society Committee for all their hard work during my year of office. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with them and really appreciate all the time and energy they have given so freely.

I also wish to thank all of the officers of the Northern Society as well as Keith Proudfoot and Joanne Lucking for their advice and support.

2014 has been another good year for the Society on Teesside and I am sure that we will be able to build on this in 2015 with the continued support of our members from across the Tees Valley. I am pleased to report that Angela Foster and Emma Read are nominated to succeed me in 2015 and I wish them every success for the year ahead.

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31 DECEMBER 2014 Council Member R Barrigan

At 31 December 2014 the membership of the Society was 442.

The courses programme, drawn up by C Richardson and the Courses Sub-Committee, has continued to provide members of the Cumberland Branch with relevant CPD locally. The courses continue to be well attended with most courses having over 20 people in attendance;

the Finance Act and Audit & Accounts update have continued to have the largest attendees with 75 and 55 respectively.

This was held at The Roundthorn Country House, Penrith on Friday 13 March 2014 and over 70 members and their guests in attendance. The principal speakers were cricketer Matthew Hoggard MBE and Martyn Jones, ICAEW President. The feedback for the dinner was very good.

There have been two golf events this year organised by Peter Ellwood, a Spring competition at Penrith and an Autumn competition at Carlisle.

There was a quiz night held in May at Foxes Restaurant Carlisle, with around 30 people attending this was a good night. Chairman and Vice Chairman (Lisa and Charlotte) were quiz masters for the night which meant the questions were not too hard!

The branch also held its Christmas lunch at The Auctioneer, Carlisle, which was attended by 46 members for a well-deserved catch up before the festive period.

A brewery tour was organised for November but due to other events on the run up to Christmas this was postponed until May 2015.

Joanna Scott was elected as CCASS chairman during the year, along with a new committee which seem keen to move the student society forward. They have held a number of events throughout 2014 and these have been much better attended than last year’s events. Let’s hope continues to improve throughout 2015.

The Annual General Meeting was held on Wednesday 7 May 2014 at the Greenhill Hotel, Wigton.

Thanks must be extended to all of the committee for their hard work at organising events throughout the year, especially Charlotte who has organised the courses.

I would also like to thank the officers and members of the Northern Society for all of their support – namely Keith Proudfoot, Joanne Lucking and also Andrew Jackson for their contribution to the Cumberland Society during 2014.
